Why Antibiotics Are Harmful to Your BreathBy Paul J. Heldt - The Bad Breath Report These days, it's almost impossible to walk into a doctor's office, without them prescribing some kind of antibiotic... Even for the smallest bacterial infections. While antibiotics do some good, the rapid rate at which people are consuming them is very disturbing. Our healthcare system has evolved from being patient-oriented to being profit-oriented. Pharmaceutical companies don't care that their antibiotics may have grave long-term side effects (like creating super-harmful, antibiotic-resistant bacteria). All they care about is pleasing their shareholders and earning more profits, quarter after quarter. It's no surprise then, that antibiotics are even being prescribed by some dentists and oral specialists to treat bad breath. It seems logical at first... Bad breath is caused by bacteria. So, if you kill the bacteria, you eliminate bad breath. It would be nice if antibiotics worked that way. What you may not know, is that the bacteria in your mouth also play an important role in digestion and keeping fungal infections from invading your mouth! Our tongues normally harbor a fungus called Candida. This fungus is harmless when there are plenty of bacteria in our mouths, but when the bacteria are killed, this fungus can thrive. What's worse - a full-blown invasion of Candida fungus in your mouth causes complications much more serious than bad breath. Besides allowing funguses to run rampant, antibiotics can also make the bacteria in your mouth much more resistant to antibiotics and conventional bad breath treatments--making curing your problem much more complicated. Remember, not all bacteria are bad. You need healthy levels of bacteria in your mouth. It only becomes a problem when those bacteria reach abnormal levels and produce bad breath. So, if you're ever tempted to try antibiotics to "cure" bad breath, remember this article!
